The Annual Dallas, TX Walk from Obesity took place on Saturday, October 25th this year in Carrollton, TX. As in years past, walk participants, volunteers, and sponsors all came together to raise obesity awareness and funds to support our cause. There was sunshine, music, smiles, and laughter with a few tears mixed in. Unlike years past, there was one person not physically present, but instead, was there in spirit and that person is Dr. Joseph Kuhn, who passed away this past July. Dr. Kuhn was a surgeon, active community member, and a great supporter of the Walk from Obesity.
There were many that walked in honor of Dr. Kuhn this year. There was even a team named after him. “Kuhn’s Krew” had 30 walk participants made up of friends, patients, and colleagues of Dr. Kuhn. The Walk Event Leader, Karen Baumann, said “Every patient that walked on his team had a great memory to share about him. He personally cared about every patient and took the time with them so they would be on a successful path to changing their lives.”
The ASMBS Foundation also provided a plaque in Dr. Kuhn’s honor to be presented as a token of appreciation for his many years of service as a bariatric surgeon and supporter of the Walk from Obesity in the Dallas, TX community. Dr. Henke, a partner in Dr. Kuhn’s practice, accepted the plaque on behalf of Dr. Kuhn’s family.
Dr. Kuhn will forever be missed and we hope that his memory will continue to live through the Walk from Obesity event that he supported and believed in for so many years.
